Vision Board 2.0: Embracing Life's Uncertainties and Crafting Your Future

Actualizado: 21 ene

In a world where change is the only constant, traditional vision boards are no longer sufficient. Allow me to introduce you to Vision Board 2.0, a methodology I have been experimenting with among my family and close friends. It's not just about visualizing your future; it's about actively shaping it in an era as unpredictable as the stock market on a caffeine high.

Step 1: Dream Big and Crazy

First, create a list of all your aspirations for 2034: possessions, experiences, knowledge, places, and life milestones. But here's where it gets interesting: go beyond the conventional. Do you want to join the space tourism trend or learn quantum computing just for fun? Write it down. The future is an open book, and you are the author. Dive into the industry that interests you and adapt your dreams to emerging trends and skills.

Step 2: Facing Your Dragons

Next, acknowledge your current limitations. Lack of time, financial constraints, job roles - these are your dragons, and it's time to look them in the eye.

This step is all about raw honesty: where are you now, and what is holding you back? What fears are preventing you from moving forward? What real-time or resource limitations are preventing you from pursuing what you've listed as aspirations?

Step 3: Your Arsenal of Superpowers

Then, list everything that gives you an advantage, everything that can be a leverage: your skills, assets, contacts, relationships, businesses, communities you belong to, etc. This is your arsenal, your toolkit for the battle. It's like realizing you're not an ordinary person; you're a person with a Swiss army knife in a world that loves multitools. Take your time with this list; don't rush it. You probably have more levers than you imagine.

Building Your Vision Board 2.0

Now, draw a line symbolizing your journey. At the beginning, mark 2024, and shortly after, draw something representing an obstacle (a huge hole, an imposing wall, or a dragon). This represents your list of constraints. Now, draw something symbolizing an element to overcome the limitation (a ladder, a rocket, or a sword). This symbolizes your superpowers/levers.

After the obstacle and the levers, incorporate images that represent your dreams from List 1, place them with detailed descriptions. If your list includes moving to a dream apartment: how many square meters is it, what's the view like, what's the interior design like, how does your favorite coffee aroma brewing in the kitchen look?

C = Constraints L = Leverage

The Ideation Process

Now, the concrete part. Create specific tasks to reduce or eliminate your limitations, enhance your advantages, and get closer to your aspirations. Divide them into categories and set deadlines. This list should consider things you can do this year to get closer to what you want.

If your vision board states that you want to become an expert in quantum computing, start with small tasks like understanding the basic principles and knowing who the most relevant players are.

If your limitation is time, brainstorm ideas to increase your availability, such as asking for help from family, hiring people, delegating, or changing routines.

Try to have at least one task for this year that contributes to your aspirations, reduces limitations, and enhances your levers.

The Vision Board 2.0 can be applied at the corporate level. It's a way to connect company dreams with OKRs. But that's for another discussion ;)

The Final Step:

The Tangible Board Print everything and place it where you can see it often. If possible, have handwritten task lists; it adds a mystical and commitment touch.

Regularly check if your board aligns with the life changes you need and desire. The tasks from the last step should be a significant focus in your life and reviewed as often as possible. Congratulations! You now have a list of focused actions aimed at achieving transformations in your life by 2034.

It's about embracing uncertainty, the challenge of living, adapting, creating, and designing the life you want to live.

Share if you try this method. I hope it enriches your life and the lives of those you believe it can help.
